Just try a high alkaline cleaner and it will emulsify the WD40.
Then just blot it up.
You will need to do it a few times.
If it is real soapstone it has no porosity .
The oil is sitting in the face of the stone.
Think of the surface as a microscopic English muffin.
Just clean out those nooks and crannies

Cost got WD 40 on soap stone / now it is stained. My recommendation would to us mineral spirits and paper towels. Are their any potential issue with trying to remove stains from soap stone?
