My Pleasure-Sometimes in Pietra dura there can be some different types of materials.
Most likely they will all polish up fine.
If the etching is light enough and you don't have to hone the surface this would be my approach.
If I did have to hone-I would start at 800. I have been able to remove light etches from black marble using this grit.
Black marbles can be soft and easy to cut.
I would use MB-22 on it wet using a small amount of product to start.
Make the slurry thick so it wont splatter much.
If that actually removes the light etching but doesn't give you the luster you are looking for then either use MB-20 or a Crystallizer for the final polish.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply, Stu.  What they want to do is polish the whole table (12’x2’). The black marble in the field has some etching which would come out with the polishing.  My question is “Will the other stones behave like the marble?” Will they polish up?

That is very expensive art-I am sure it can be done but at what cost.
These can be one of  kind pieces-Consider risk to reward.
The piece that I see doesn't look bad at all.
I don't see any abrasion-why do they want to do it-??
