Agree with Randy-wont be so easy to remove a sanded grout.
I might try high alkaline cleaner then acid etch-then color seal.
I would test either method

Grout is malfunctioning... Worst case is you will need to remove grout and re-grout. Do a sample of that. This helps with pricing it and owner sees the answer to their problem. If you just clean and color seal. Then color seal may not stay.
