I agree with Fred. Find someone with similar skills. Steve Webb started with me after 20 years building surfboards which requires massive skills in sanding and polishing, stone is easy in comparison. He was a master with stone in a shockingly short period of time. Car detailing, auto body, surfboard and boat builders... All good.

OMG, why didn't I think of that.
They are few and far between and you know that john.
It gets frustrating hiring one, training  him, then in a couple months finding out they just can't catch on or are lazy,
Then on to the next one
We had one kid that really caught on, new the trade but we trained him and he was with us for 7 years. problem was he couldn't show up on time or at all some days, especially if there was a hockey game on the night before it was almost a given that he wouldn't be in. We paid him good money $20hr and continuously told him if you want to make more SHOW UP
He wound up quitting went to marblelife and became a model employee for them.
I guess he figured they wouldn't put up with his crap

Thank you

Some hiring advise that I have learned over the years

Do not hire anyone experienced, you only will have to undo bad habits

hire someone who has hand skills..Someone in another trade that knows how to use power tools

Hi all,

We are in the Houston-Metro market and are looking for a new stone technician. Do any of you know anyone looking in this market that may be interested?

Never hurts to ask!
