Glaze n seal have a great water based but it won't adhere properly to a solvent base. I agree with Fred about not sealing as slate has a terrible habit of spalling. It is much better to use an 80 grit tynex brush which will resurface it and leave a nice finish, and a silicone sealer, 511 will enhance slate somewhat and is very comparable with the natural oils inherent in slate.

I have a client with slate on the outside of a large commercial building. They have put Glaze and Seal Wet Look 2000 (Lacquer) on every 3-4 years for the past 10 years. It has worn off in many areas, especially ares where water is used a lot. My idea is to use a water based sealer over the
existing slate after cleaning. The lacquer is high in Voc;s. Lots of complaints from tenants and slow drying time. would putting water based sealer over laquer work? I am thinking it would hold where th lacquer has worn off.
