Good for you-While in some cases taping is important, we found working around the inserts is more efficient .
So besides running a 17 inch machine.
The $1200 bucks or so you pay for an 11-13 inch machine will pay for itself many times over.
Not to mention the speed in honing countertops and using in small bathrooms and such.
When doing estimates always check - Lippage, grout type, quality of installation(hollow spots, cracks, loose tiles) and presence of
Coatings.
Have a estimate sheet that lists all the items you need to check.

When honing if the inlays are installed flat with the rest of the stone you can clean the granite inlays with acetone, then use a good quality clean packing tape and place over the inlay and cut the tape off around the grout line press down to make sure you have a good adhesive bond. Then hone over the tape. If the stone and the inlay are flat you should not have a problem. If the inlay is not flat then you need to hone around the inlay. When polishing polish over the inlay and you will not harm the granite inlay.
