Thanks John,
The Makitas do not have handles on them. Both of them are 20-25 years old.
After new brushes and cords, etc. I figured it was time. Plus they both get hot real
quick.

Tony,

I have found the Makita is the best machine, I have machines that are 6 years old and running fine.  Most of the time when I hear guys going through machines it caused by placing too much pressure on the machine, let the diamond do the work or they are placing their hand over the air vents causing an over heating problem.

I never put the handles on the machine, this helps from applying too much pressure onto the machine thus causing it to work too hard.

I use to have this problem with Flex machines and that why I don’t recommend a flex machine. Lighten up on the machine.
