Yes you can hone it and re-polish, depending upon how bad the etch is will determine what grit diamond you will need to start with,  probably not lower than a 120 grit

Subject: Rust poultice restoration

 

I've got a customer who applied a home made rust poultice to a honed terrazzo floor. It looks like they used an excessive amount of rust remover and it etched the floor. I'm assuming that honing will resolve satisfactorily. Any other suggestions?
