Plumbers putty is generally pretty "easy" to remove.
Then there always seems to be one that goes awry.
Usually the plumbers putty is a dark ring which seems(on this top) to have been removed for the most part.
I am not sure but 4-5 poultices later it may be that the stone(in that area) has darkened. I have seen that happen with some white marbles.
Let it dry well and then see how it looks.
Solvents seem to be better with plumbers putty-peroxides are better for organic stains.
If the marble has just darkened in that area it may be an issue.
Stain removal jobs can be difficult-important to put in writing that this is an "client understands and agrees this is an attempt to remove a stain"
A hold harmless agreement along with a clause that client agrees to pay for time and materials whether stains are removed or not.
Mostly I just tell folks how to do it and what to use-sometimes they insist we do it.
Once I tell them the charges the majority give it a try.
The ones that are left at this point don't mind paying a proper charge and we can work with them.
There are a percentage of clients that the staining is so bad it would be a wiser choice to replace.
You will never make any money on stain removal unless you only work for high end folks that understand what your time is worth.
There are exceptions but I would rather help them on the phone then get involved. It feels good to help folks out and make money on jobs that have predictable results.

How do you all charge for poulticing?  It's always so open ended and involves a lot of driving around and revisiting clients for a minimal amount of time. Because of this, unless it's part of a bigger job or my guys don't have anything else to do, I find myself wrestling with wiggling out of these kinds of assignments. But maybe there is a better way to handle it so we all win.

I have removed this type of stain from marble using a poultice of mineral sprits and DE powder cover with plastic put soon holes in the plastic allow to set for 24 to 36 hours. Remove poultice. Then poultice with acetone for 24 hours rotate these poultices until stain is gone. This could take 3 to 4 applications

Partners,

The plumbers son used plumbers putty on this faucet install three months ago. The homeowner contacted the builder a few weeks after the install when he noticed the darkening around the faucet area. The builder did not make it out there for another week. He applied the first poultice almost a month after the damage was done. He applied three more poultices since then, some remaining on the stone for a week or more. He used The DuPont product for removing oil stains.
I was called in this week and applied a 40% peroxide poultice with baby powder. Removed the plastic yesterday and the poultice today. This picture still shows the darker area. Will check again on Monday when everything is dried out.
Homeowner handpicked this slab a year ago and would be hard to match. Not sure if the poultices should continue or we should give up if this last one is unsuccessful.
Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks, Chris
