You would be better served to remove the existing or most of it. The new grout needs to get a good bite into the area to stay.

If you took a good amount of time doing a short cut per the clients recommendations…don’t think the first sign of grout falling out he will be calling you back.

Other than a grout saw, there is a grout cutter that fits on to a dremel. You might be able to adjust it to the exact depth.

We have a mutual business partner that hired installers for a rectified porcelain tile job. The customer is being a stickler about the grout being slightly under the tile’s edge. Does anyone know of anything that can be used to “skim” over the existing grout to bring it up flush with the rectified porcelain tile without having to remove and replace and of the existing grout? Depth is as little as 2 mm (width of a quarter) in some places.
