We just finished an interior encaustic floor in a church. We polished them with National  Chemical Labs Ceramic Restoration Creme and then sealed them with the impregnating color enhancing sealer from Stone care central. I suspect that that stuff would not hold up outside. image1.JPG

Agree with Mike. I've worked on encaustic tiles several times. They are exceptionally porous and they darken quickly and easily. If they weren't sealed and maintained from the outset, temper your client's expectations for exceptional results.

Here's an excellent article that I refer to, each time that I work on these tiles: http://www.buildingconservation.com/articles/tiles/tiles.htm

Good luck.

These are called encaustic tiles, cement bisk. Think of them like a light coloured paver. They need a super good impregnator. Even then they can still be hard to keep clean so a matte finish topical should be considered, only as a back up plan.
