Mike and Baird...You present valid points if the vast majority of your business is stone restoration, but a truck mount unit does offer benefits if the business also produces a significant portion of revenue from residential tile and grout cleaning (stone or ceramic/porcelain). Sure, these jobs can be completed with a portable, but a truck mount can be more efficient or convenient in several situations. For example, sometimes you get those small jobs like restoring a couple of bathroom floors & the space is tight. I'll use the truck mount to pick up the slurry, rather than trying to work around the extra equipment.

I'm not suggesting that everyone should go out and throw down $15-$20k for a new truck mount, but if you've got one already or you can pick up a used one at a good price, they're a viable option. Hope it doesn't make me less of a stone and tile guy.

I agree Baird. I see truck mounts as for someone is a carpet cleaner who also does stone. I have never had the need for that much power and hot water. There are better ways. I never want to even have the appearance of a “carpet guy”  I am a stone guy only (well maybe a bit of tile too) Sick of competing against these guys, who say “20 years experience” on their van, but 18 years of that is carpet, flood restoration work, pest control, and 2 years doing stone with 3 monkey pads and an SX12.  My opinion, ditch the truck mount and use a portable, and save a ton on fuel costs and van interior space.
