Dean,
Do you have any pictures of the samples that you can share? Just from reading through the post it seems like this should be a pretty straight forward job. However, are you sure the white is Cararra and not White Thassols? In most cases when we have come across checker board floors most are White Thassols and Nero Marquina. If that is the case they may explain why you aren't getting the results your expecting. If it's Thassols you will need to hone to 1800 then polish and you should be fine. Just trying to offer my 2 cents.

We do a good number of black and white checker board floors-you should have quite good results after polishing with 5X.
The final pop and depth of color will be added when you hit it with crystallizer.
As far as the gloss meter goes like Randy stated you are working with 2 different materials-the black will read higher than the white usually.
You should be getting readings over 90 and up to 100 on the black.
Gloss meters will make you crazy!

I haven't seen three samples yet, but my business partner said he is hitting upper eighties but said it doesn't look deep and rich. What should these Stones be reading when properly polished with a gloss meter? I know these guys have a tendency to try to make everything perfect in that might be what's going on right now.

These floors are not hard to do.

Start with a 220, 400 and 800 then polish with 5X polishing powder.
