My recollection of working on dolomitic marbles is that we used 5x fairly dry on a final Polish to increase friction. And yes,you probably have a harder mineral running in the vein.  That isn't uncommon.

Also having an issue with raised veining. Seems the veining is a lot harder but the rest of the surface and is causing waves
