In working with fossils, there can be some areas harder and some softer. I am not sure that I would use stainless screws, due to thinness of the material and uncertainty of the drilling process.  Would it be possible to due fiberglass with resin on the back?  The back is normally not for viewing and you could reinforce with the type that dries fairly clear.  All you need is to distribute weight evenly for handling.  Just a thought...Joyce

its basic geology..If it has fossils than it is a type of limestone.
