The alkaline cleaner will usually resolve this type of soot. If the soot has partially penetrated into the stone or grout, the alkaline cleaner will help to emulsify it. If you have a counter top spinner, like a mini Turbo Hybrid, it will help a lot. The biggest challenge will be on corners and other edges with lips.

There are also products called soot sponges that are used for soot removal in remediation settings, such as home fires. I've got minimal experience with these, however.

Thank you Blain. What about the soot caused by the barbecue?  Do you think the alkaline cleaner and scrubbing will do the trick?

Looks like travertine. If it is just light surface rust, sometimes it can be removed with an alkaline cleaner and light scrubbing. Start with that. For any remaining rust that may have penetrated, try RSR-2000, TeRust Remover, or make a poultice with Iron Out (don't use too much).

 Hi partners

I have a customer who wants this rust stain and the stains caused by the barbecue removed. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this?

Thank you
