Maybe it would be a good idea to get a screwdriver and try to try to chip an 1/8 inch divot in an inconspicuous place with the customers permission.  If you see clay show through, don't use any abrasives of any kind, you will harm the floor and can't be restored.  If it is hard and a solid color, it could be porcelain and it will polish with diamonds.  Another option, is to chemically remove the mastic with MCL.  Once most of it is removed, you can use a good quality stripper and a boost pad to get residue.  This will be especially effective if they want a matte finish.

Grind small area with right angle grinder and aggressive cup wheel to see what you dealing with and if its stone then i would grind it with 25 or 40gr trapezoids (1 or 2 seg ) dry to expose the stone and follow with consecutive metals dry so i wouldn't have to deal with the slurry. After 100 metals go to 200 transition wet and 400 resin wet and so on. the only issue i see is the sanded concrete like grout that will most likely scratch the the floor and wont let you polish it but looking at the floor they probably going for industrial old look and wont want polished floor. Thats my 2 cents

nope, what you see is what you get. Some of the floor is exposed on top but nothing that would indicate what it is. I know how I'm going to handle it if they want to pay the price. LOL that's why I said let's have some fun with this

Is there any way to look at an edge, floor register, anything that would show you the edge of the tile?  It makes a huge difference if that is marble or ceramic.   Porcelain you could treat like the marble but the ceramic is a different story.

Let's have some fun with this, looking to see what some suggestions would be to restore this 200 square foot elevator Lobby 75 year old ceramic/marble tile coated with carpet glue and cement
