The way to remove these without damaging the adjacent tiles is to use a diamond blade on a 4" grinder and make a cut thru the stone 1/2" from the edge of the tile you are demoing. This will allow for the expansion that occurs when it explodes. When the inside pieces are fully removed just use the edge of a margin trowel and a hammer and tap the 1/2" piece inward and it will pop right off. This is how you can guaranteed only do as many as you want. I would not rely on trying the same by just cutting out the grout.
I usually talk the people out of it because the tiles rarely match and will look worse than whatever the current problem is. If it is a crack you have to prep the surface properly before re installing. Bottom line, if you don't have background in installation than maybe call a stonemason.
