One thing you can try is mix xgen 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 to get a thicker viscosity.  Plus it will dry quicker as well.

I have tested in our shop and a few jobs and still getting the same level of gloss.

Yes I understand about the porosity from it being opened up. But I also did a sample that was taken up to a 400 hone and I still had the same problem with it dulling down. It's a shame that there is not a time span that you could go in lightly walk on and apply a second coat. Not trying to say that the x-gen is a bad product but it's challenging to use on a porous surface.

Carl,

I think I see the problem. If you look at the surface the surface appears to be somewhat rough. Probably for years of stripping and waxing. The stones appear to be above the base ( cement  or epoxy .) thus leaving the surface rough. When you first apply the product it’s setting on top of the surface and as it dries the product pulls down into the surface and dulls out.

If you were to go in and hone at a 50 grit up to 220  and smooth the surface I think you will find the shine will remain.

The shine is due to the light reflection going into the surface and reflecting out. When the surface is rough and pores the material is not consistent and the light reflect off more as a mat finish instead of the gloss finish.

I think honing it deeper will correct your problem. It also increases the cost of the job.

John

Here is a picture of the test step 18 hours after x-gen was applied. When applied everything looked fine. Then it dulled down. If I was able to just put a second coat of x-gen right on top I am sure it would be good. But having to re-scuff and reapply is not cost effective.

Looking for the best topical coating for terrazzo steps and Landings. Any suggestions on something that will hold up to scuffing
