You can use one of several devices to test the coefficient of slip. There is the BOT 3000, American Slipmeter (both digital and analog), and other sled pull devices that can give you the reading. The magic number is to be greater than .5 (for which most polished surfaces do not meet). These devices will all test for the static coefficient of slip. You can also test for the dynamic coefficient of slip with some of the devices. There are also different materials such as leather and neoprene for the foot. The American Slipmeter is a good value, unless of course, you can spring for the BOT 3000 at $7500.

I personally have not done that before. Can someone share how that test is completed? Is there a specific “result” or “number” that would indicate it does not need further treatment?  Thank you!

Has anyone taken slip test reading on the stone, does it really need additional slip resist ?

Hi Everyone,

We have been asked by a slab distributer to see if we can increase the coefficient of friction for these slabs that are going to be used on exterior steps.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
