Tell us more about the coating and the marble-pictures would be good.
You scrape a true marble you may create stuns marks and permanently damage the stone.
My go to test is a paint stripper(methylene chloride) to see how thick and hard  the coating is.
Use a razor blade to pull off the melted coating o see what you have.
I have never used a heat gun and a scraper. Mostly stripping by a combination of mechanical and chemical means-
