Tony,
To effectively leather or antique, you would first need to texture the stone by flaming or bush hammering, which is not very easily accomplished in the field.
I would recommend re-honing to maybe a 200g and then color enhancing.
Hopefully, that would help the situation.
Do a test to confirm the results and procedure.
