Here is a picture of some of the different types of pads I use. For the bull
nose on the stair tread I would probably use a combination my variable speed
metabo , hand pads, and the 2" x 2" flexible pads ( the one in my hand ).
These will conform to nearly any shape and work great for getting into
tight corners where the rotary tools wont.

The easiest is if you know how to do it my flex, or makita or what
ever grinder model you use, point it by hand as they do it in the
shops, 120, 220, 400 and finish with a wax &buffing wheel. That's only
one example of diamond combination, tables and counters at home I
often simply do the buffing wheel and wax.
Also , those little 3m like diamond hand sponge pads come preshaped
like a bullnose if you can find it. that's very simple to use
