It is a variable speed machine that the spec says goes from 0-6000. Actually what happens is that, when the dial is turns down to 1, it more or less stops under pressure but picks up speed as you goose the dial up. So you can get it to slow down pretty far. It has a 2.54 horsepower motor and is very powerful at higher speeds. My tech is using it for grinding old gook out of the edges of an old sandstone floor and he says it is much more effective for that than the Makita. It is also a very heavy machine and i wouldn't use it as an all-day machine. But we're happy with it so far in limited applications.
