Roger,
Try scraping with a single edge razor blades, then use alkaline based
stripper allow to dwell for 10 to 15 minutes, if that does not remove it
then apply a poultice

I would appreciate any recommendations on removing wax spots on a fire place
hearth. Please see attached picture. I initially used Prosoco Fire Place
Cleaner and that removed most of the problem areas but not the wax.
