The peroxide will probably not remove the rust, you need an acid to remove
the rust, try Iron our mixed in with your poultice powder, keep  in mind the
iron out is an  acid and will etch the  stone and will require diamond
honing.

If you do not want to use iron Out you can try using Alpha  RSR 2000  this
will not etch and will remove rust.

Most likely is it iron. Treat it with hydrogen peroxide.
