Dayron,
I typically use diamonds to remove the etching based on how severe the damage followed by a 400 grit twister pad or honing powder to remove picture framing. You could hone with diamonds 1st to remove the etching and use 7" vortex pads to produce a nice satin finish on travertine. This might eliminate the need to use honing powder.
