The use of mineral spirits will attack  the oil stain, this is much safer
than the white gas. If you are doing a wall mix you poultice using Fuller
Clay. This can be found by a google search. The fullers clay will  hold the
poultice in place.
The mineral spirits will penetrate the surface and break down the oil this
allow the poultice to worl.

Coleman Lantern fuel (white gas) is one of the best for use in a poultice on
grease and oil stains. Methylene chloride burns and causes cancer while
Coleman lantern fuel is extremely flammable. Choose your poison carefully.

Customer has a granite bbq back splash that is soaked thru with grease, Ive
tried about 5 different poultices and only had good results with a methyl
chloride stripper-poultice. before I start doing dozens of these with the
methyl chloride any other suggestions. Thanks Stephen
