RE: Travertine Lippage Removal

Justin,
When removing lippage on a travertine floor the one hidden is how many holes
are you going to open up. Then once the holes are open how are you going to
fill them. Are you going to use a polyester fill? Or you going to use a
travertine powder fill? If you are going to fill with a powder miox I would
highly recommend the traver-fill product from VMC. You add water and float
the floor just as if you are grouting the floor. Clean up an excess than
come back the next day and do a final clean up using neutral cleaner. If you
are going to polish the floor just use your polishing powder to remove any
film or the floor.
As you start the grinding process the first cut need to remove the lippage.
Depending upon the thickness it could take up to 1 to 1 1/2 minutes per
square foot using a 50 grit metal diamond. If you are using metal diamonds
and you start with 50 metal you aregoing to need to go to 100 metal then
back to 50 resin 120, 200 400 then polish or leave the floor at the hone
finish.
The 50 metal are going to pull out fills so plan on filling hole.
You can add some weight on your first cut if you are using metal diamonds.
The time is taken on the first cut every cut after that is a normal timing.
I would say you probably need to be $8 to $12 per sq. depending upon the
amount of lippage you are cutting.
Don't forget the edges that will probably need to be completed by hand.
Flatting a floor is a lot of fun .

Subject: Travertine Lippage Removal
Hi Partners,
I am doing an estimate for first lippage removal. There isn't a large amount
of lippage removal, and it isn't that bad in most areas, but I want to know
the steps required for the removal and suggestions on pricing. Also if
anyone knows of any hidden problems that I may encounter while doing the job
that would affect the price. Let me know any information will helpful.
Thank you,
Justin Cameron
