I see a lot of Thassos.
Lesser quality Thassos can sometimes exhibit some darker markings.
If the face of the stone is clean there is a good chance what your seeing is in the stone.
Test the suspected area with a high alkaline cleaner or even Little bleach.
You will find it probably isn't soiled.
