Need advice ,please read Scott Wilson 21 Sep 2015 09:42 EDT
Hi partners: I have run into a difficult situation Upstairs 24x24 cream martial, was factory finished with a crystalized polish, the tell tale steel wool micro scratches very apparent Go to start the job, then realize this marble is on a wooden substructure, floor is creaking everywhere, lots of missing grout due to movement, find an unfinished closet, and this 24" stone (Heavy 2 cm) is installed over one sheet 3/4 plywood and 1/2" wonder board (Not nearly enough for this stone), so taking a heavy planetary upstairs not an option So I take swing weighted machine up ,regular drive and diamonds, the first lippage I hit ,the whole upstairs 900 sq ft literally shakes, that's to dangerous So I go with flexible pad ,diamonds mounted,go from 200- 1500 Polish with mb22 and the floor completely orange peals ,back to the 400 Then try 5x,mb12,10x,and 206r ,every acid polish left some orange peal So now I have gone back mechanically diamond polished to 12000 Looks good , but just dosent have the same pop as the 5000+ feet crystalized downstairs Then the customer finds several leftover stones downstairs,as soon as I saw them my heart sunk,it's 2cm and has a heavy mesh back,so I have done custom marble installs for years, and restoration since the later nineties, then I remember I had only seen this once before, it was a stone from Spain , very brittle, not very hard I came from the Dr Fred school to never crystalize marble floors, I have never run steel and fluid So here come the questions Will crystallization possibly solve my problem ? Bring up ultra clear pop? Can someone tell me what finish condition needs to be before it's crystalized? Can someone briefly walk me thru the method, and best products Mr John , you are in this part of Florida ,would you consider sending an experienced man over to Gainesville for equitable compensation? Thanks in advance for any and all input Best regards Scott Wilson Wilson Stoneworks Inc Sent from my iPad
