Sounds like a classic example of investing in and training a good tech and then after they are “up to speed” having them undercut you and steal your customers. I was in the stone fabrication business for 10 years and had to deal with this many times. Every year I would train 2-3 technicians only to have at least one leave for more money at another shop or open their own shop and undercut me to steal my clients. That’s the main reason I got out of the fabrication business and started doing restoration. If this guy has four kids, a mortgage and car payments then the last thing he’s thinking about is loyalty to you. That’s only human nature and survival. Do what’s best for you and your business.
