The acid rain is the cause for the finish being dulled. It depends on how much rain for this to occur.

The color loss is from what’s called solar bleaching. Caused by UV rays and can be reversed by high intensity gamma rays which can’t be done in the field. This effects most all limestones and travertine. Turkish travertine seem to be effected less.
