Stuart,
I do not encourage customer to use a steamer on stone especially travertine. First steam has very few if any cleaning factor, second the steam heats the stone . the stone expands and then cools and the fills loosen and over time will come out. I have had numerous customer call me saying their travertine floors have started recently to have hole open up. my first question is how are you cleaning it and the reply is I been using a steam cleaner to clean the stone. I have them stop using the cleaning and the hole stop opening or open up at a much slower pace. As you know over time travertine hole will open but to speed up the process use a streamer. Thero- expansion and contraction = hole opening.
Also the steam will break down the sealer at a much faster rate than just using a neutral cleaner and a mop.
Hope this helps

Subject: day to day maintenance on stone floors
Greetings,
We are cleaning about 2000 sq. ft. of travertine. The wife wants to use a “shark” steamer to clean her floors. She says its very easy to handle. The husband disagrees, saying that the steam will weaken the seal (impregnator) on the stone. Any thoughts?
