I would say that we have never had much of a problem running portable machines, and also I don't think the truck mount solution would work well in high rises, museums, and other places. In the business district of our City one typically can't park in front of the building. Also, we keep a huge load of equipment and chemicals in our main van, which saves time having to continually go back to the warehouse for things. For concrete we have a 600lb machine and a 5' tall hepa vacuum, and these require a separate vehicle. I can see that maybe the Truck mount would be a good solution for a one man crew, though.

I purchased a almost new truck mount for pennies on the dollar which made most jobs much more efficient and has paid for itself several times. Since that time, we have transitioned mostly into a stone restoration company. Although, on occasions our truck mount has been extremely useful for cleaning surfaces like unfilled travertine floors and shower stalls, and the grout lines on chisel cut travertine, as well as outdoor projects like travertine pool decks, limestone etc. I couldn't have not imagined using other methods to clean on some of the larger projects. As for the carpet cleaning, we have put it to work on occasions when necessary. When we were awarded big contracts that included carpet cleaning. But, we don't advertise the service. We have more than enough stone jobs to keep us busy and I don't care to compete with carpet cleaning guys. My truck mount has saved me time and money does have its place when working on some stone jobs and is another piece of paid for equipment that we occasionally use. My opinion, I would consider a portable if I were looking to invest money into something. We don't use our truck mount as a daily tool to restore stone to me that would be extra work unless I'm missing something!

It's much faster and less of a hassle to use a truck mount, especially when power sources are limited. It also greatly reduces running extension cords through out the house to access power and constantly tripping breakers.

>>> I agree Baird. I see truck mounts as for someone is a carpet cleaner who also does stone. I have never had the need for that much power and hot water. There are better ways. I never want to even have the appearance of a “carpet guy” I am a stone guy only (well maybe a bit of tile too) Sick of competing against these guys, who say “20 years experience” on their van, but 18 years of that is carpet, flood restoration work, pest control, and 2 years doing stone with 3 monkey pads and an SX12. My opinion, ditch the truck mount and use a portable, and save a ton on fuel costs and van interior space.
